Celebrate Our Favorite Holiday With Us By Doing Your Part To Protect the Earth!

Earth Day 2018

Human beings often get so caught up in their hectic lives that they forget to cherish and care for our very own home: planet Earth. To raise awareness and encourage individuals to take decisive action towards the betterment of the environment, we celebrate Earth Day each year on April 22nd. Haven’t decided how you’re going to spend Earth Day 2018 just yet? Our team at Frank’s Lawn & Tree Service is here to share some of our favorite ways to celebrate the holiday and do our part to protect the Earth.

First started in 1970, Earth Day was inspired by millions of people who were opposed to the havoc the industrial development of the world was wreaking on the environment. Today, over 1 billion people and 192 countries participate in the holiday and organize marches, petitions, and community projects aimed towards making positive changes.

Earth Day Activities

As a land maintenance company, Frank’s Lawn & Tree Service is well aware of how precious our environment truly is. If we do not make conscious efforts to reduce our damaging marks on the planet, we may lose its luscious beauty altogether. If you are ready to take steps towards reducing your carbon footprint, (the amount of carbon dioxide you emit due to the consumption of fossil fuels) here are a few helpful guidelines:

Find Alternatives to DrivingIn our fast-paced world, our first instinct is to jump in the car when we need to get from point A to point B—sometimes accompanied by several pit stops along the way. However, the gas that is wasted during these drives and the pollution that is emitted into the air is slowly destroying the environment.

Driving is sometimes an individual’s only choice in getting around, but if you make an effort to choose an alternate form of transportation once a week, you can make tremendous progress in reducing your carbon footprint. Riding a bicycle or skateboard, walking, and carpooling are all great ways to give the environment a breather.

Be Cautious of your Home Appliances: You may not be aware of it, but your home is filled with appliances that suck tons of energy and negatively impact the Earth. Dishwashers, refrigerators, and air conditioning units are notorious for driving up the energy bill.

However, many companies now make appliances that are specially designed to conserve energy and are much more efficient. Next time you are shopping for new additions to your home, search for “Energy Star” labeled products.

Conserve Utility Use: It is likely that one of your less fond childhood memories was of your parents nagging you to turn off the lights everytime you left a room. While they were probably more worried about their electric bill than their environment, they were definitely on the right track!

Something as simple as turning off all of the lights in a home that aren’t in use can be a great way to lead a greener life. If you want to take your energy saving options to the next level, you should consider investing in compact fluorescent or LED bulbs.
